Stryker Hip Replacement Implants Injuring Americans

Stryker Corporation, one of the world's largest producers of orthopedic implants and other medical devices has been warned by the FDA about serious problems with hip and knee implant components. The warning letter is published on The U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.

Complaints

Over the past few years, Stryker has received an unacceptable number of complaints from patients because of faulty hip implants and joint replacement components manufactured by Stryker. Some for the reported complaints included the following:

• Fractures and bone chipping
• Ceramic squeaking or noise
• Crunching feelings
• Pain and loss of function
• Uneven wear

Recall

Stryker has responded to the FDA's letter on their website. Stryker admits that manufacturing residuals exceeded the company's internal acceptance criteria. As a result, Stryker is initiating a voluntary recall of the Trident PSL and Hemispherical Acetabular Caps manufactured in its other facility in Ireland.
