Shoulder Pain Pump Lawsuit

Shoulder Pain Pumps :

Shoulder Pain pumps are used to deliver pain medication to the shoulder following arthoscopic shoulder surgery.

A recent study suggests that the pumps may deliver too much medicine causing a loss of cartilage that may cause permanent pain, loss of mobility, and other complications.

What Pumps Are Affected?

There are several manufacturers of Shoulder Pain Pumps. The most commonly used are:

  • Stryker®
  • Stryker® PainPump 1®
  • Stryker® PainPump 2®
  • PainPump® Blockaid®
  • I-Flow®
  • On-Q® Painbuster®
  • Donjoy®
  • Donjoy® Pain Control Device
  • Accufuser® Plus Pain Pump

What is Postarthroscopic Glenohumeral Chondrolysis or PAGCL?

Glenohumeral Chodrolysis is painful cartilage disintegration that results in excruciating pain and usually requires more surgery, and in some cases complete joint replacement.

PAGCL is one of the most common complications following shoulder surgeries – but it only occurs in patients who received a shoulder pain pump filled with bupivacaine and epinephrine during their surgery. Studies now suggest that up to 63% of arthroscopic shoulder surgery patients who receive a post-operative pain pump may develop PAGCL.

Doctors normally inserted pain pump catheters directly into the joint’s muscle tissue after surgery. But beginning in 2000, at the suggestion of some pump manufacturers, many surgeons began inserting the catheters into the joint space (synovial space) and/or the rotator cuff instead of into muscle tissue. As a result of this non-standard procedure, patients began experiencing glenohumeral chondrolysis .

If you or a loved one have suffered PAGCL from shoulder pain pump use, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact the attorneys of Anastopoulo and Clore LLC. today by filling out a free case evaluation form on this page or call us toll free at the number listed below.
